Some of the industry’s most successful fleets are seeing important bottom-line gains with Vusion’s Precision Analytics and Regulatory Compliance services.
Steve Kane, Telematics Manager at Old Dominion Trucking, has always understood the power of data to drive success for his company’s 6000-truck fleet. “Numbers don’t lie if you do the math right,” he’ll tell you. But taking large amounts of data on everything from year and make of trucks, to driving habits, to atmospheric and road conditions, then manually sorting it all on a spreadsheet to gain practical insights was laborious and time-consuming. That’s where Vusion has made a real difference. “They have a very experienced group of people who really understand analytics and know how to apply them.” Vusion’s comprehensive data modeling process gives Old Dominion a clear view of vehicle performance and adjusted MPG, in a fraction of the time it took before.
The company also uses Vusion’s Fuel Tax service, which has greatly streamlined that function. So Kane is a fan. “There’s a whole new set of rules to this game. There’s all this data out there. And if you have Vusion in your corner, they’re gonna show you things—statistical facts—that will increase your business and make your decision-making better. Bottom line, it will save you a lot of money.” Kane, an 18-hour-workday guy himself, adds that he appreciates the work ethic at Vusion. “ I’ve worked with them enough to get an up-close look. And that team just flat-out works hard to get it done for the customer.”
Mesilla Valley Transportation is known throughout the industry as a leader in achieving high MPG. “MPG has been one of the cornerstones that the owner has put into the culture”, says Mike Kelly, Director of IT. Over the years, the company has become very astute at boosting MPG and benchmarking their progress. But as innovative and tech savvy as they are, they found Vusion was able to help them up their game. “We’re using their numbers as a third party to validate the things we’re seeing”, Kelly says. And “they are providing us analytics that took us years to figure out”.
Not too long ago, for instance, MVT was changing out its fleet. They’d carefully selected a make and model. But “As we were bringing them in, we were seeing the MPG numbers drop.” They had a few theories of their own, but asked Vusion what they could find. “They pointed out that the trucks we were trading out and getting rid of were getting better MPG than the new trucks we were bringing in. And we were about to change the whole fleet! So we changed completely. Vusion was able to get us some MPG numbers that we weren’t able to see ourselves.”
